Tracking Progress

We appreciate that all children learn at their own individual pace and we are constantly observing and recording children's progress. All children are assigned a 'Key Carer' who is responsible for tracking their key children's progress, and looking at the next steps for each child's current interests and development.

Language and literacy, mathematics, and personal and social development are given special attention, following the guidelines from the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. These three areas of learning form the basis of the Two Year Old Checks that our staff undertake in partnership with the child's health visitor.

Our older Rainbow and Pre-School children have a daily group time, where they are separated into small groups with their 'Key Carer'. It is during this time that we particularly concentrate upon observing the children and planning for individual needs. The children spend time throughout the week focusing on a different area of learning and undertake a variety of activities to enhance their knowledge and understanding. All group activities have an underlying link to numeracy and literacy, and each group spend a day a week in our garden area, which either links to physical development or understanding and knowledge of the world.

The nursery uses an online monitoring system called Tapestry. Photographs, observations and progress are shared regularly with parents, via a secure internet site. Parents can download an app whereby they can comment and contribute to these, to create a memorable record of the child's learning journey. Next steps are shared every six weeks via Tapestry- this informs parents of what their child will be working towards during the next few months at nursery, and how they can further support their child at home.
